Film Still

Beautiful Mind; figure 12, This is the film still where John Nash is receiving a shock therapy. The character of Nash looks helpless and still as if he is unconscious. His character at this point in time is looking like a mental patient. His wife has turned her head as a sign of unbearable situation. It looks as if she is deeply hurt in relation to what Nash has to go through. She is clenching her hands together which shows stress. The doctor on the other hand, is still as a rock with no emotions portrayed. His head is fixed on the direction of the patient which shows he has no problem in watching Nash's suffering. I could relate the real suffering of Nash from the suffering shown in the film. This scene is brilliantly shot with excellent cinematography.

Figure 14; This is another still from the same movie. This still has a lot of pride in the actor's choice of stance. How his head is forward with tears in his eyes. This is an excellent shot to show the happy ending of a movie. I can use this still in my research paper to prove if John Nash had a happy ending ever. The dressing of the character and the whole ambiance of the still shows a grand event.

Donald Capps, “John Nash: Three Phases in the Career of a Beautiful Mind” Journal of religion and health. Winter 2005

This article explains the credibility of the movie’s research on schizophrenia. It states that the difficulties with the illness are not shown as they are. The writer of this source also mentions three psychoanalytical theorists to support the argument. This source will help in comparison to what schizophrenia really is and how it is portrayed.

This is a great help in terms of being accurate on John Nash’s personal life and who all got affected by it. This source can help me get facts right from the movie and how they are transferred into the movie.

My research Topic

The research topic I selected for the paper is on "A beautiful Mind". A movie produced in 2004 based on the life of John Nash. Nash is the famous economist who invented the J curve, a famous theory about micro economics. He was suffering from schizophrenia and this movie is about the biographical problems he had to face while fighting this disease and how managed to cope with it.

I came to New York 2 years ago to pursue theater as a career. I am currently in my learning stage but I wish to earn my bread through my passion for performing art. Where my roots are, education is the biggest priority. Therefore, I would aim for MFA or have the most training possible.
Films have been a big part of my childhood. I have always been a fan of true acting, when I believe the actor on stage and his/her super objective in a movie. Good acting and good story line catches my attention, if I was to list, I consider Green street hooligans, blood diamond and the godfather as my favorites. However, there are many movies to add to the list.
Technology has played a major role in making human life better and easier in the current time but at the same time over usage of technology has left us with drawbacks. I would not consider myself as a technology optimist but I wouldn't consider myself as a pessimist either because as much as I find it hard, it makes my life easy. In my opinion, everybody has different opinion about technology but its comes handy to everyone.
